So yesterday we hear that the Schmindians have been pursuing Travis Hafner since as early as last spring, and that they've been discussing the deal with Texas for the past couple of months. (By the way, we gave up a young power pitcher who won ten games for a team that only won 74, for a 25-year-old AAA first baseman, but that's almost another topic.) Then Shapiro sez at the press conference, "Yes, we would have done this deal even if we had signed Jim Thome." Talk about peeing on my head and telling me it's raining!
It just makes it even clearer that they didn't want Thome to stay. And I don't necessarily have a problem with that, but why not just come out and say so? It's becoming obvious that we're never going to pay a top-notch ballplayer to stay here, so why put Jimmy through all that **** ? I wonder why they even offered as much as they did. This is a carbon copy of the Manny Ramirez debacle at this point.

Lets say it's raining pee and it's raining rain.
I'd love to lock you and "teacher" in a room to hash out Ryan Drese.
Sheesh! You two couldn't be more opposite! But that's OK.
A five year deal wouldn't have been the end of the world for Thome.
Nagy, Jaret Wright, Travis Fryman...you're looking at OVER 15 million in unproductive money, JUST THIS PAST SEASON....
Thome was quite insensitive to call at least one of these guys his friend yet still be oblivious to the fact that they didn't produce a tangible result for the tribe, but cost the tribe in productivity, reduced attendance, and payroll.
Thome's comment that Philly was closer to being a winner rings of Manny Ramirez saying he wants to try and beat the Yankees as a reason to go to Boston.
I mean, if Travis, Wright, and Nagy had had decent seasons, we finish over .500 and increase attendance. They didn't play well, we lost all the way around, Thome uses it as justification to leave for a "winner",
and calls Nagy first to tell him that he is leaving the Indians cuz they won't guarantee a sixth year, Nagy must have had to keel over to keep from busting a gut over the self-servingness of that phone call.
You go Jim, cuz the Indians just don't pay...(Could you imagine Nagy saying something like that!)

Cincinatti Post has an article saying Indians and Reds may have a deal for Casey any day. Shapiro's dad is Casey's agent yet GM Shapiro says a deals never been discussed contrary to what Reds officials are saying. Stay tuned.

glad to hear about Chipper Jones.
As for holding Mr. Shapiro to the same standard....
IF, and I say IF either Escobar's agent or Tribe Management were trying to encourage Mr. Escobar to have a great spring before the March 11th contract renewal deadline, I hope they would be men enough to admit their mistake.
Why was Alex Escobar still unsigned until at least March 02, and perhaps even at the time of his injury.

Well now. When I come up with a conspiracy theory, it gets ridiculed.
I'm so ahead of my time
